Four Killed in Waterbury Crash

Four people were killed in a crash on Thomaston Avenue in Waterbury Friday. The Waterbury Police Department reported that an Audi A7 and a Lexus GS300 traveling in opposite directions collided head-on in the northbound lane near the 600 block of Thomaston Avenue.
Both drivers were traveling at high rates of speed, according to police, who believe the southbound driver lost control and crossed the other’s path. Fires ignited, quickly engulfing both vehicles. Three occupants in the Audi and the Lexus driver, who was alone in the car, were declared dead at the scene. The Waterbury Police Department Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash.
Speeding is one of the leading causes of accidents in the United States. Driving above the speed limit reduces stopping distance and reaction time. It also makes vehicles more difficult to control, particularly when making sudden stops or attempting to avoid an object on the road.
